OUR STORY
From One Small Home to a Shared Vision of Better Care
Curo Care Collective began with a family home and the belief that care should always feel personal.
Our Director, Mike Kneafsey, grew up surrounded by care. In 1986 his parents opened Valley View Care Home as a small three-bed residential home in Halifax, which gradually developed into the 18-bed home it is today.
Our Director Mike Kneafsey spent his childhood at Valley View in Halifax, where his parents opened their doors to residents in 1986. From the beginning it was a family home first, and that shaped everything. Mike saw how calm, consistent care builds trust, how staff who truly know residents make all the difference, and how families who feel welcome become part of the home.
In 1998, Mike and his wife Beverley took over the running of Valley View when Mike’s parents retired, continuing the family approach that had shaped the home from the beginning.
Following the passing of Mike’s parents, the family faced a decision about their former house, Cartron House, which sits within the same grounds as Valley View. Rather than selling it, they chose to transform it into a second, more intimate care setting. Cartron House became the bespoke 6-bed home it is today, while Valley View continues to thrive as a much-loved residential care home.
That was the beginning of Curo Care Collective. Since then we’ve grown gradually, welcoming homes that share the same values. Each one is small enough to remain personal, with teams who are trusted to do what is right for the people who live there.

“Our care remains rooted in the belief that the best care is about more than meeting needs. It’s about coming home.”
OUR PRINCIPLES
The Values that Shape Our Homes
At Curo Care Collective, values aren't slogans. They guide how we care, how we communicate, and how we support the people who matter most.
-

Accountable
We take responsibility for our actions and decisions. Openness, learning, and teamwork aren't just words to us – they're how we work every day. When something goes well, we celebrate together. When something needs improving, we address it honestly and work as a team to make things better.
-

Respectful
We honour each resident's background, beliefs and personal preferences. Respect means honouring who they are, who they've been, and who they remain. -

Caring
We care with genuine respect, always valuing dignity, privacy, and independence. Care isn't something we do to people – it's something we provide with people, recognising that maintaining autonomy and choice is as important as meeting physical needs.
-

Honest
We believe in open, honest communication with residents, families, and each other. We learn from mistakes rather than hiding them, because transparency builds trust and helps us continuously improve. You'll always know what's happening, and you'll always be able to speak freely with us.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
What “Collective” Really Means
We don't see ourselves as a corporation. We're a collective, because what we've built is based on shared purpose.
Every home is part of something bigger, with access to shared training, support, and resources. But each one also has the freedom to operate in a way that works for its residents and staff.
We protect independence by keeping decision-making close to the people it affects.

Come and See How It Feels
Spend time in the space. Meet the people who work there. See how they talk to residents and how residents respond. It's those everyday moments that tell you whether a place feels right.
We'll give you space to ask questions, time to talk things through, and honest answers about whether we're the right fit.
