A Very Special Visitor at Grove Lodge

Photo taken at Grove Lodge

There was a buzz of excitement at Grove Lodge as we welcomed a four-legged guest! Our residents were treated to a visit from a therapy pony from Pony Patch in Glossop, and it was one of the happiest afternoons we've had in a long while.

Brushing Time

A favourite part of the afternoon was grooming! Residents took turns brushing [pony's name]'s hair, gently combing the mane and coat while our visitor stood patiently and enjoyed the attention. Our guest certainly left looking very well groomed indeed!

Memories Come Flooding Back

The visit also sparked some wonderful stories, with residents sharing memories of family farms and childhood donkey rides on the beach. Many of these conversations carried on long after she had gone home. Spending time with animals can reduce stress, encourage conversation, and bring real comfort, and gentle activities like brushing a pony can offer residents living with dementia a lovely sense of connection and joy.

A Big Thank You

A huge thank you to the team at Pony Patch for bringing such a special guest to Grove Lodge, and to our staff for making the afternoon run so smoothly. Most of all, thank you to our residents, whose smiles made the day unforgettable.

We hope to welcome her back soon!
