Masks, Costumes and Plenty of Laughter: Superhero Day at Woodleigh Manor
The team dressed up as Superheros
Everyone swapped their usual outfits for masks, bright costumes and bold colours for our very own Superhero Day, and it was a joy from start to finish. From the moment the first costumed carer arrived for the morning shift, the whole home was buzzing with excitement. Corridors that are usually calm were suddenly full of heroes, and it wasn't long before residents were pointing, giggling and guessing who was hiding behind each disguise.
A Day of Transformation
Getting ready was half the fun. Residents chose their costumes, and our team were on hand to help with finishing touches. Some residents wore colourful masks and looked every inch the mysterious hero, while others became classic heroes such as Flash Gordon. A few even invented their own characters, complete with brilliant names and "special powers" that had everyone in stitches.
Our team went all out too, and no two costumes were the same. We had a big green muscle-bound hero, a web-slinger, a caped heroine, a video game plumber, a pair of avengers in eye masks and one colleague in a bright orange jumpsuit who kept us all guessing. Posing in front of our comic book backdrop, surrounded by balloons, they looked like they'd jumped straight off the page. By the time everyone was ready, the lounge looked like a gathering of the world's friendliest superhero league.
Heroic Fun on the Dance Floor
Once everyone was dressed up, the music went on and a few of our heroes couldn't resist a little boogie. There were toe-taps, swaying in chairs and the odd twirl around the lounge, with staff and residents dancing side by side. Residents clapped along to their favourite tunes, and more than one hero was spotted singing the words under their breath. It may not have been a full disco, but it was more than enough to fill the room with smiles, and it turns out a few of our superheroes have some very smooth moves.
Plenty of photos were taken throughout the day, and residents loved looking back at them afterwards to spot each costume all over again.
