Pancakes, Shopping and Sea Life: Days Out Across Our Curo Homes

Rain on the bus windows. A stack of warm pancakes. A table full of people laughing about the weather. That was a recent Tuesday morning for residents at Valley View, and it's exactly the kind of day we want everyone in our homes to enjoy.

At Curo, we believe moving into a care home shouldn't mean leaving the world behind. A cuppa somewhere new, a wander round the shops or a day by the sea keeps life full of little adventures and gives residents something to look forward to and talk about.

Three days out to remember

Skipton, with a side of pancakes. Residents at Valley View in Halifax set off on their very first trip with Myle, taking the scenic route through the countryside to Skipton. On the way, they stopped at Billy Bob's, a retro American-style diner, for tea and pancakes. The weather didn't play along, but nobody cared. It was a brilliant day, and the next trip is already being planned.

Retail therapy in Stockport. At Marple Lodge, residents headed out on the first of many Myle trips to the Broadstone Mill shopping outlet. Browsing the rails, choosing something nice and treating yourself are small pleasures, but they mean a great deal.

A sensory adventure at Sea Life. Just a short way from the seafront at Lytham St Annes, the team at Delaheys took a few residents to the Sea Life Centre. There was no rushing about, just time to take in the colours, sounds and shimmering lights together. As the team put it, sometimes the simple things make the best memories.

Why it matters to us

Getting out and about is good for the body and the mind. Fresh air and daylight help residents sleep better and stay active, and a change of scene can lift spirits and spark conversation. For people living with dementia, new sights and sounds can bring back happy memories.

Most importantly, it's about choice and dignity. Residents decide where they'd like to go, and our teams know each person well enough to make every outing comfortable, safe and at their own pace. With accessible transport, plenty of rest stops and staff who really care, what’s not to love?

Come and see for yourself

If you're looking for a care home for yourself or someone you love, we'd love to show you around. Pop in for a cuppa, meet our residents and team, and see what everyday life looks like in our homes across the North West and Yorkshire.

Here's to many more adventures together!
